Microsoft announces Xbox Labs for R&D into game remixing

Xbox games chief Asha Sharma announced Xbox Labs to research how games are decompiled and rebuilt for new hardware. Sharma noted that Windows PC builds are being translated for Apple Silicon and browsers via WebAssembly and WebGPU. The new group of engineers and scientists will focus on turning these ideas into player experiences. Microsoft told GI.biz that AI use will not be mandatory for the project. Rock Paper Shotgun reports that this may be an effort to make old games playable on new hardware or increase moddability.
