PCs without updated certificates will lose access to Windows Update by June 2027.
Microsoft is rotating the certificates used for trusted connections to Windows Update. Current certificates expire on May 17 and June 19, 2027. Devices without replacement certificates will be unable to download updates from Microsoft servers after those dates.
Windows 11 versions 26H2 and 25H2 received the updates in July 2026. Users on version 24H2 or Windows Server 2025 must install the September 2025 security update or later. Other supported versions of Windows 11 and 10 need the July 2026 update. PCWorld has the full list of version requirements.
