Asobo Studio discusses combat and worldbuilding in Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy

TL;DR

Asobo Studio developers say the new protagonist is more capable in combat than Amicia but remains a vulnerable character.

In a recent interview, Asobo Studio creative director David Dedeine and lead writer Carol Ann Bañuls discussed the development of Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy. Bañuls states that Sophia handles direct fights better than Amicia without being invincible. Dedeine says the combat style focuses on being sneaky rather than using brute force to match Sophia's background as a plunderer.

Dedeine mentions that new animations give Theseus a gladiator style while maintaining identical gameplay mechanics. The game features Minotaur's Island across two historical periods separated by 2,500 years. Dedeine says the team designed these locations so that the ruins in Sophia's time appear as faded versions of the colorful, ornamented settings seen during Theseus's era.
