Rockstar accused of rewarding information providers for spying on union
TL;DR
The IWGB claims Rockstar HR offered additional time off to employees who provided screenshots from a private union Discord server.
During an employment tribunal in Glasgow, the Independent Workers' Union of Great Britain (IWGB) claimed Rockstar rewarded employees for monitoring a private union Discord channel. The IWGB legal team stated Rockstar HR offered "sweeteners" to "information providers" in exchange for gathering information from the server.
The IWGB presented evidence during the cross-examination of Rockstar head of publishing Jennifer Kolbe. This evidence allegedly showed Rockstar HR manager Julie Stephen offering additional time off to an individual for spending one hour procuring screenshots from the Discord channel. The individual reportedly requested one hour off the following day, which Stephen allegedly approved on the company's Workday platform.
Rockstar previously stated it fired more than thirty staff members last year for sharing restricted data on a chat server. The IWGB disputes this, stating the channel was used to organize and recruit union members. The tribunal is currently hearing the case and is scheduled to conclude on November 18.
