TL;DR
Linux 7.4 is expected to enable HDMI 2.1 by default for AMDGPU and add initial Apple M4 and A18 Pro support that is not yet usable for end-users.
The upcoming Linux 7.4 kernel merge window includes several hardware updates. AMDGPU will enable HDMI 2.1 support by default, which includes VRR and ALLM support. AMD PerfOpt IOMMU will also be enabled by default for AMD iGPUs, including older hardware, to improve AI and LLM performance. The AMDXDNA accelerator driver is adding support for the Ryzen AI Max 400 series NPU.
Reports say Linux 7.4 will include initial Device Trees for the Apple M4 and A18 Pro for the MacBook Neo, along with upstreamed audio support for Apple Silicon. This Apple support is not yet usable for end-users because hardware functionality is not fully wired up, though the mainline kernel can boot.
Other expected changes include support for the Google Tensor G5 SoC and Pixel 10 devices, Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 laptops, and the Raspberry Pi 10-inch Touch Display 2. Intel updates include the Intel BFF driver, vRAM health checks for the graphics driver, and improvements for Battlemage. Microsoft is contributing a para-virtualized IOMMU Hyper-V driver, and the Google C Binder driver will be replaced by a Rust-based version.
