TL;DR

Alinea Analytics reports that physical game sales for PlayStation 5 and PS4 accounted for less than 20% of total revenue in 2026.

Physical game sales for PlayStation 5 and PS4 generated $655 million in revenue in 2026, which represents less than 20% of total sales revenue for the year, according to Alinea Analytics. The analytics firm notes that this revenue split is skewed by digital pre-order bonuses and digital-only releases.

Alinea Analytics reports that players who purchase first-party, narrative-driven, single-player games tend to buy more physical media, while multiplayer and sports gamers buy digital more often. For example, FC27 sold 705,000 physical units despite a physical sales share of only 8.9%. Other titles with high physical unit counts include Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced with 613,000 units and Crimson Desert with 511,000 units.

Certain titles saw higher proportions of disc sales. Resident Evil Requiem had a 30.2% physical sales split, and Marvel's Wolverine reached 32.3%. Resident Evil Requiem also accounted for $92.3 million in physical revenue alone. Eight games, including Resident Evil Requiem, First Light, Wolverine, FC27, Black Flag Resynced, Crimson Desert, Pragmata, and Onimusha Way of the Sword, generated a combined $1.2 billion in physical revenue.
