Microsoft tests Xbox Cloud Gaming playtime packs starting at $3.99
TL;DR
Microsoft is trying out a consumption-based cloud gaming option so users can buy hours directly.
Microsoft began testing a way to stream games via Xbox Cloud Gaming without an active Game Pass subscription on October 21, 2026. The feature is currently available to eligible Xbox Insiders, with a broader rollout planned for November.
Microsoft is offering introductory playtime packs including 10 hours for $3.99, 25 hours for $7.99, and 50 hours for $11.99. These paid packages provide ad-free streaming, higher-quality streams, and shorter waiting times. Purchased hours remain available until they are used. Microsoft is also testing a free, ad-supported version of cloud gaming for Insiders without Game Pass.
Purchasing streaming hours does not include any software. Users must already own a compatible title or pick from available free options.
Options, supported software, and features can change based on the user's location, hardware, preview tier, and account type.
