TL;DR
Rockstar developers say GTA VI will have narrower roads and denser traffic to provide a more realistic urban driving experience.
According to art director Aaron Garbut, the upcoming sequel includes tighter streets and heavier vehicle congestion than its predecessor. Garbut told Jason Schreier that this design decision was made early in development to create a more realistic driving experience. The change requires more buildings and environmental detail, which has impacted the development process. Some Rockstar artists have worked on the game map since 2015.
The development team also experimented with the weapon wheel UI for a long time. They tested various alternatives, such as trays and webs, before deciding to return to the traditional weapon wheel for the final version. Rockstar developers reportedly spent between 2019 and 2022 deciding how to balance the realism found in Red Dead Redemption 2 with the arcade-style gameplay of the Grand Theft Auto series. The developer additionally verified that users will find numerous locations to enter and inspect.
