Nvidia DLSS 5 model shows up to 90% speed gains in Witcher 3
TL;DR
Modders extracted a new DLSS 5 DLL from NBA 2K27 that reports up to 90% speed gains in The Witcher 3. Nvidia says the update runs neural rendering up to 2x faster than the September version.
Nvidia shipped its faster DLSS 5 Neural Rendering model with NBA 2K27 on October 16. Modder Renan Maniero extracted the 310.9.16.0 DLL build, which allows users to inject the model into unsupported games using tools like RenoDX and OptiScaler. The new model is assigned to Preset B, while the previous version remains as Preset A.
Gaming Optimized tested the presets and found the new model runs up to 90% faster than the old one in The Witcher 3. This 90% figure is a best case and varies by game. These findings align with Nvidia claims that the October update runs neural rendering workloads up to 2x faster than the September version. Nvidia says the update shrinks the model by 24% to roughly 118 million parameters and cuts VRAM use at 4K by 20%. Nvidia also claims up to 40% higher frame rates in NBA 2K27.
Official DLSS 5 support is limited to RTX 50-series GPUs and GeForce NOW. Nvidia plans to bring the feature to RTX 40-series cards but has provided no date. While Nvidia has not mentioned RTX 30 or RTX 20 support, the OptiScaler README notes a modified runtime that runs the model on RTX 20-series cards.
