Marvel's Wolverine · official art via IGDBMarvel’s Wolverine was the best-selling game in the US for September 2026, according to Circana. The title topped the charts in revenue from physical copies and digital versions, which excludes mobile games and digital add-on content. It is currently the 11th best-selling game of 2026 year-to-date. Reports say the game faced criticism regarding its combat and certain handholding features, though some of those elements have since been patched.
The game achieved better opening-month digital and retail revenue than any other publisher release since Helldivers II in February 2024, Circana analyst Mat Piscatella says. While PlayStation has not shared exact sales figures, Ampere data shows Wolverine was the second-best-selling PS5 game globally in September, selling approximately 2.16 million units behind EA Sports FC 27.
The success of the title coincided with a 43% year-over-year increase in PlayStation 5 hardware spending in September. PS5 unit sales also grew by 22% compared to last year. This comes as total US video game spending across content, hardware, and accessories fell 1% year-over-year to $4.76 billion for the month.
In the year-to-date rankings, NBA 2K27 has overtaken Resident Evil: Requiem to take over the leading year-to-date sales position in the US.
Other hardware trends for September show a 3% year-over-year drop in total unit sales. Xbox Series dollar spending fell 2% and unit sales dropped 27%, with Xbox Ecosystem console unit sales reaching an all-time September low. Nintendo Switch 2 dollar spending fell 12% and unit sales fell 14%.
