War Thunder upcoming major update overhauls DIRCM mechanics
TL;DR
The developer says an upcoming major update for War Thunder will replace wide-area jamming with narrower, turret-directed DIRCM mechanics that target single threats.
War Thunder · official art via IGDBThe developer says an upcoming major update for War Thunder will overhaul directional infrared countermeasures. The current system uses wide radiation sectors to jam multiple threats at once. The new mechanics restrict jammers to a narrow field directed by turret movements.
The updated system relies on missile launch warning sensors to cue targets. A processing delay applies before a single jammer slews toward a threat, meaning multiple incoming missiles can overwhelm it. If a threat veers away, the jammer stops emitting after a short period to engage other targets.
Visual updates include animated jammers on the Schützenpanzer Puma and Ka-52, which show strobing light effects in night vision mode and stow when disabled. Aircraft receive radar warning receiver scope tracking and a blinking indicator for active jamming. The changes apply to lamp-based systems on the Ka-52 and Puma, plus laser variants on the Mi-28NM, AH-64E, Z-10ME, and Mi-8AMTSh-VN.
