GOG has launched the GOG Preservation Programme and a series of big box gaming packages. The printable big box files use 3D scans of original packaging and are currently available for five games: Descent, Myst, Hitman: Codename 47, Armikrog, and Star Trek 25th Anniversary. GOG developed this project alongside Benjamin Wimmer's Big Box Collection. Marcin Paczyński says the company may add more titles in the future and expressed interest in eventually offering physical copies with CDs, though he noted this would require a separate business for manufacturing and logistics.
Games in the Preservation Programme feature a specific badge to signify they have been retested. Paczyński says GOG commits to maintaining and fixing these games for as long as the company exists. While games in the programme have been retested, Paczyński says this does not mean other games on the platform do not work.
