TL;DR

Valve released SteamOS 3.9.5, the first stable version in the 3.9 series, featuring an updated Linux kernel and KDE Plasma desktop environment.

Valve released SteamOS 3.9.5 on October 24. This is the first stable release in the SteamOS 3.9 series. The update includes Linux kernel 7.2 and updates the desktop environment from KDE Plasma 6.4.3 to version 6.7.3. Valve also switched the WiFi backend to wpa_supplicant to improve compatibility with some networks and fixed a bug involving hidden networks.

The update provides preliminary support for hibernation, though Valve says this feature is currently disabled on the Steam Deck because of a driver error. This hibernation support is also unavailable in Game Mode.

Valve says the update improves power consumption on the Steam Deck when no audio is playing. On the Lenovo Legion Go 2, the update adds preliminary brightness control support and fixes system crashes in Forza Horizon 6. For systems using Intel Panther-Lake CPUs, the update fixes boot screen errors and allows Elden Ring and Dark Souls 3 to run again. Other fixes include resolving GPU issues in The Crew Motorfest and correcting fan control on some Asus devices after sleep mode. Users can install the update through system settings on SteamOS devices like the Steam Deck.
