The Long Dark · official art via IGDBThe expansion is set within a water-filled volcanic crater featuring over 100 kilometers of rails across five landmasses. Players start with access to Anna Island and roughly 30 kilometers of track, leaving other regions for upcoming patches. Players must find and repair an old prototype locomotive serving as travel and shelter. Hazards along the way feature avalanches, rock falls, broken rails, and aurora threats.
Hinterland treats the 18 to 24 month schedule as an estimate rather than a promise. Players can use their current saves from the base game with this new content. Ports for consoles like Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 5 should arrive late in 2027.
