Former Sony executive Shawn Layden says complex rights between Sony and FromSoftware prevent a Bloodborne 2 sequel.
Former Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios head Shawn Layden says legal rights prevent a Bloodborne 2 sequel. Speaking on The Trophy Room podcast, Layden says Sony, FromSoftware, and FromSoftware's parent company all hold rights to the series. Every party must consent to a new project. Layden says reaching an agreement between these participants is the hardest part.
Layden also says a sequel must do more than repeat the success of the 2015 PS4 exclusive to meet fan expectations. Reports say Bluepoint once proposed a remake, but FromSoftware did not approve the idea. This remains the case despite Sony becoming the largest shareholder of FromSoftware's parent company, Kadokawa, in 2025.
While official updates are absent, players are testing an unofficial PC version featuring DLSS and high FPS. Other fan projects include an Android port and a VR mod with hand movement controls.
