Nvidia claims a new DLSS 5 update doubles performance and cuts 4K VRAM usage by 20%.

Nvidia announced an update to DLSS 5 that it says is two times faster than the current model. This represents a 10x performance increase since March, according to the company. Nvidia says the update reduces 4K VRAM usage by 20% and shrinks the model to 118 million parameters. These changes reportedly halve the GPU overhead compared to the September model and can increase frame rates by up to 1.4x. Nvidia claims it reached these results through neural model refinements and pipeline optimizations.

The update debuts in NBA 2K27 on October 16, and Nvidia plans to bring it to Hogwarts Legacy next month. Support continues for RTX Spark devices, GeForce NOW, and RTX 50-series GPUs.

Nvidia is also adding a faster Performance Mode for Frame Generation. This applies to RTX Spark laptops and GPUs in the RTX 40 and 50 series. A new Preset C mode replaces the previous AI model used for ray-traced effects and UI optical flow with a lighter algorithm. Nvidia says this improves Dynamic MFG, MFG, and DLSS Frame Generation, claiming a 35% speed increase on the RTX 5060.
