TL;DR
Dataminer KeplerL2 claims PlayStation 6 RAM and storage costs exceed $680, which could push the final retail price toward $1,000.
Dataminer KeplerL2 reports that the RAM and storage components for the unannounced PlayStation 6 now cost more than $680. These parts were significantly cheaper when Sony originally selected its hardware components.
Leaks indicate the console will use GDDR7 memory on a 160-bit bus. The hardware supports up to 40 GB, but Sony opted for a 30 GB configuration shared between the CPU and GPU. Sony reportedly considered cutting the memory amount to maintain a more affordable price for consumers.
Reports suggest the release may be delayed until at least 2028. Because memory covers a massive portion of the build cost, the final retail price could reach up to $1,000 once the APU, power supply, and other necessary components are added.
