Rockstar North co-studio head Aaron Garbut says no single person at the company has the entire GTA 6 project in their head because of its complexity. Reports say developers have creative freedom to add environmental details, similar to how a developer added anatomically accurate horses in Red Dead Redemption 2.
Rockstar says the game contains hundreds of smaller interiors for players to enter and explore. While the company wants a more restrictive weapon system than GTA 5, reports say developers experimented with different layouts for months or years before deciding to keep the familiar circular weapon wheel.
Rockstar currently employs 4,711 people across 12 offices. GTA 6 is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
