TL;DR

Developer Laurian Xavier is reducing work on the free P.T. PC port after facing death threats and online abuse.

Laurian Xavier is stepping back from active development and community interaction for the free P.T. PC port. Xavier, a 21-year-old developer, says the decision follows death threats, personal insults, and attempts to shut down donation accounts. Some people online claimed the project was a repackaged emulator, though Xavier notes the public repository allows anyone to verify the work.

Xavier released the port two weeks ago using C++ and the original PS4 Fox Engine code. The version includes modern visual features, virtual reality compatibility, and increased speed. Xavier notes the preservation effort is nearly finished. Although small updates might arrive following version 1.0.8, no guarantees exist. Xavier is shifting attention toward a Silent Hill 3 reverse-engineering endeavor.
