TL;DR
Atari says it will shut down the VCS console store on February 1, 2027. An upcoming OS update and homebrew app will keep the hardware functional offline.
Atari is ending support for its 2021 VCS console. Atari community manager Carly Francis announced that the platform store will close on February 1, 2027, with purchases stopping after January 31, 2027. Sales for the hybrid PC console remained modest throughout its life.
To prevent the hardware from becoming unusable, Atari plans to issue an operating system update. This patch removes dependencies on company servers for authentication. Players will also receive a homebrew application allowing them to continue adding new games independently. Atari states that information detailing the migration process will arrive early next year, and previously downloaded games will remain playable.
