TL;DR

Jon McKellan says Konami prevented overlap between Silent Hill projects by not sharing details of other games in development with different studios.

Silent Hill: Townfall director Jon McKellan said at MCM London Comic Con that Konami kept his studio unaware of other Silent Hill projects until they were announced publicly. McKellan, who founded Screen Burn, said Konami used an internal review process overseen by series producer Motoi Okamoto to monitor development across different studios.

The goal was to prevent games from becoming too similar. When projects appeared to overlap, Konami asked developers to change direction without specifying which other game was using the similar idea. McKellan said Konami intervened once during Townfall's development by asking the team to alter a monster's appearance due to similarities with a different title.

The Townfall team saw Silent Hill f a few months before its release, but McKellan said the games felt different enough in experience and setting that the team was not concerned about overlap. Other projects mentioned in this context include Silent Hill Ascension and the Silent Hill 2 remake.
