TL;DR
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's DMZ mode features a 3D Printer at the Forward Operating Base that unlocks at level 2 to craft gear and base upgrades.
Players can access a 3D Printer at their Forward Operating Base in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 DMZ once they reach level 2. The printer crafts items such as armor, backpacks, grenades, and fire support, but it cannot make weapons. Weapons and attachments must be purchased from the Gunsmith using DMZ Cash.
Initial recipes available include bandages, medkits, 1-plate and 2-plate armor vests, and small or medium backpacks. Other categories unlock as players level up: Tacticals at level 4, Lethals at level 7, Field Upgrades at level 12, and Fire Support at level 28. Some specific items, including Pain Killers, Energy Drinks, Radiation Blockers, Smelling Salts, and Door Breacher Charges, can only be unlocked by finding recipes during deployments.
Crafting requires two types of materials. Basic Resources, including Synthetics, Electronics, Chemicals, and Metals, are automatically converted from looted items and do not take up backpack space. Special 3D Printer Ingredients, such as Biomaterials and Binding Catalyst, occupy inventory slots and are harder to find. Certain items require boss drops, such as the Prototype RF Module from Deathstalker or Military Composites from Colossus. Players must extract from a deployment to keep collected materials.
The printer also allows for permanent upgrades to FOB stations, such as expanding the Stash. While some upgrade requirements are known, the specific costs for certain tiers are not.
