TL;DR
Reports say the unannounced Nintendo Switch 2 Lite could feature Samsung's new 8LPU+ process.
Unannounced details suggest the upcoming portable system could adopt a new Samsung 8LPU+ system-on-chip. Samsung is scheduled to present this 8nm technology platform on December 14 at the IEEE IEDM event in San Francisco.
Data from the IEDM 2026 website shows that the new 8LPU+ process provides a 12% boost in performance alongside a 15% drop in power use. It also features an 8% smaller chip area than the older generation. Integrating native 3.3V input and output devices decreases I/O area by roughly 10%. Although designed primarily for robotics, edge AI, and vehicles, observers note the hardware might suit a compact gaming device.
An anonymous industry source indicated that current foundry clients and firms targeting vehicle certification might adopt the new technology, though coverage fails to name Nintendo or NVIDIA.
