Funcom announced the free Blood and Ice expansion for Dune: Awakening, which launches on December 1. The expansion adds the Polar Sink map, a region consisting of two biomes: the tundra and the ice cap. Funcom says this new area provides about 35 hours of progression. In this region, heat becomes a commodity rather than an issue. Players will need to upgrade equipment originally designed for desert heat to survive the cold.

Players can harvest ice to speed up production and cool base equipment. Funcom is also adding a new cosmetics store containing outfits, vehicle variants, and base customization options to fund continued free updates. At first, the shop will offer a rotating selection of items like film outfits, while a subsequent patch will make the entire catalog permanently accessible.
An Events tab will launch with the expansion to track progress and rewards. Following the Scourge event, Funcom plans to release a Water Crisis event shortly after the Blood and Ice expansion. Funcom CEO Scott Junior says the company has ambitious plans for several major free updates in 2027 that will add new locations, mechanics, and content.
