John Romero says his unannounced shooter project has a new publisher. The project lost its publishing agreement with Microsoft earlier this summer. Romero Games previously reduced its staff from 110 people to 5 people following that loss of funding.
The studio has now rehired 10 former employees who served as sub-team leads. Romero says the current team size of roughly 15 to 16 people is where they intend to stay. He says the game is a complete redesign and a rescoped version of the original project to fit a smaller team. While the original 110-person game will not be finished, the new version uses existing code, art, and characters to jumpstart development. Romero has not disclosed the name of the new publisher or when an announcement will occur.
