TL;DR

The Pre-Funding Pitch Interactive Media Agreement allows developers to use union voice and motion performers for teasers and prototypes to help secure publisher funding.

In early November, SAG-AFTRA launched a new contract for game studios. The agreement allows game developers to hire union voice and motion performers for projects used to solicit funding. This includes teasers, trailers, sizzle reels, vertical slices, demos, and playable prototypes.

SAG-AFTRA president Sean Astin says the agreement lets developers use professional talent earlier to create higher-quality products for potential backers. Executive director Duncan Crabtree-Ireland says the plan streamlines hiring to help developers compete for backing.

Crowdfunded projects are excluded from using this contract. Projects that do not meet all eligibility requirements may apply for a waiver through the union. The union represents about 160,000 performers and media professionals.
