TL;DR
Nvidia is rolling out a new DLSS Frame Generation algorithm called Preset C via a beta driver update. The update can increase performance on RTX 50 Series GPUs by up to 35%.
Nvidia has introduced a new DLSS Frame Generation algorithm known as Preset C. This update is currently being rolled out through the company's latest beta driver. The new preset is available in the Nvidia App beta under the Custom DLSS Override – Model Presets section.
The update works by replacing the second AI model used for optical flow with a lighter, faster algorithm. Nvidia says this change reduces the performance cost for both DLSS Frame Generation and Multi-Frame Generation. According to Nvidia, the technology provides up to 35% higher performance on RTX 50 Series GPUs. Testing on an RTX 5060 8GB at 1440p while running Cyberpunk 2077 showed a 10% cost reduction in 2x mode, 23.8% in 4x mode, and 36.4% in 6x mode.
While Nvidia says the impact on image quality is minimal, the company did not specify if RTX 40 Series GPUs will see the same performance improvements as the 50 Series. The preset is compatible with RTX 40 Series hardware. Nvidia notes that Frame Generation and Multi-Frame Generation are intended to improve perceived motion smoothness rather than act as a substitute for native high frame rates.
