These advertisements appear even for players who already own the game or have selected custom images. The issue affects both uploaded images and dynamic backgrounds.
Players can stop these advertisements by going to personalization settings and turning off the "show event-themed backgrounds" option. Simply selecting a different background does not prevent the promotional images from reappearing. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 was released on October 23.
