Jono free Steam platformer limits gameplay to one person at a time

TL;DR

Tuomas Erikoinen's free Steam game Jono allows only one player to control the character for one minute before handing the turn to someone else in a global queue.

Jono is a free 2D platformer on Steam where only one person in the world can control the character at any given time. Developed by Tuomas Erikoinen of Part Time Monkey, the game uses the Godot engine. To avoid sending video streams, the game sends only the active player's control commands to viewers, which their computers use to render the character's movements.

When a player's turn begins, they have exactly one minute to progress through rooms before the next person takes over. The next player starts exactly where the previous one left off. Deaths only reset the current room rather than the entire game, and each death leaves a gravestone to warn subsequent players.

The game features a global queue that has grown from five to ten people to a minimum of 60, with peaks reaching 99 people. In one 2.5-day period, Erikoinen reported 2,500 new players joined, resulting in 3,300 hours of watch time compared to 62 hours of actual gameplay. Players in the queue can use a shared chat to send emotes and tips.

The community is working toward a goal of one million unique rooms, most of which are procedurally generated. Erikoinen also manually reviews player-made levels before adding them. On October 25, 2026, the community reached a milestone of 100,000 completed rooms. At that moment, there were 185 people in the queue and 232 spectators, with 136,499 total deaths recorded. Erikoinen estimates the million-room goal could be reached by April 2027.

Difficult levels are placed in an optional Meat Grinder mode. One such level required 2,627 deaths and nearly five hours to complete. Erikoinen stated the unique queue system was intended to make the game harder for AI to clone. He says he plans to avoid further monetization for the title.
