TL;DR

Microsoft's "System Hardware Update 200.0.7.0" addresses screen flickering and long reboot times on the Surface Laptop Ultra.

Microsoft released a firmware update for the Surface Laptop Ultra on October 22. The update, listed as "System Hardware Update 200.0.7.0," fixes screen flickering, unexpected restarts, and extended reboot times. It also includes general performance improvements and unspecified bug fixes.

The laptop began shipping on October 16. While the update addresses some user reports, it does not fix all hardware issues noted by reviewers. Tests showed a 57-millisecond response duration accompanied by trailing effects, plus a 0.61-nit black level. The update also does not address the lack of local dimming on the Mini-LED panel. Some owners reported the device runs hot during light workloads, but Microsoft has not commented on this.

The update is arriving in stages. Once installed, the firmware cannot be rolled back. Microsoft advises owners to check Windows Update or the Surface app and restart the device to complete the installation. The Surface Laptop Ultra starts at $2,599 and is expected to receive firmware updates until 2032.
