GSC GameWorld released Update 2.1, "The Zone Lookout," which adds manual controls for A-Life NPC visualization distance and a fast travel system.
GSC GameWorld has released Update 2.1, titled "The Zone Lookout," for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. The update introduces a setting to adjust the A-Life NPC visualization distance. Players can choose between Recommend, Dynamic, Extended, or Highly Extended settings. The Dynamic option scales based on hardware configuration, while the Extended and Highly Extended options may reduce performance. These settings affect how far NPCs and mutants are rendered and visible, though they may not apply to quest NPCs.
The patch also adds fast travel via NPC squad leaders. This feature is limited to destinations players have already visited and requires payment in cash, even when using neutral or friendly squads.
Technical fixes in the update include resolving quest-breaking triggers, missing NPCs on PC and PS5, and issues where players could die during certain cutscenes or emissions. GSC GameWorld updated level art and geometry in the CNPP, Generators, Cooling Tower, and Malachite regions. The update also includes frame rate optimizations near the Perimeter Dam and Underpass Exit, and a fix for a map marker memory leak. Players on SteamOS, GeForce NOW, and handheld PCs receive solutions for controller input and DLC activation at launch.
Combat and AI adjustments include improved enemy use of low cover, more reliable melee reactions, and reduced enemy spawn numbers at Rostok and the Duga. The update also scales the audible distance of gunfights and binocular identification ranges to match the new visualization settings.
