Existing digital owners in most regions can upgrade to the Standard Edition for free. Digital owners can also choose to upgrade to the Deluxe or Ultimate Collections for a discount. Physical buyers do not qualify for the no-cost base upgrade. Instead, they can purchase the digital Ultimate Collection for a reduced price by launching the original Nintendo Switch version on a Switch 2 and following an in-game message.

The upgrade window runs from October 27, 2026, at 9 AM PT until January 31, 2027, at 9 AM PT. Players can carry Nintendo Switch worlds over to the Switch 2, though specific conditions for transferring worlds may apply.
