TL;DR

GXVK translates the Voodoo-era 3dfx Glide API to Vulkan for Linux and Wine, arriving alongside the D7VK 2.4 release.

A new open-source project called GXVK launched on October 28, bringing the 3dfx Glide API to Vulkan for Wine and Linux. The project comes from CkNoSFeRaTU, a contributor to the D7VK project, by forking DXVK. The developer aims to support all three 32-bit Windows flavors of Glide. Early screenshots and reports show titles like Pandemonium 2, Incubation: Time Is Running Out, and Diablo II already running.

Installation requires placing the matching DLL file next to the game executable or inside the Wine prefix system folder. The developer warns that GXVK sits in a very early prototype stage. Performance will be slow, bugs will be common, and progress will move at a slow pace. Windows is not tested or supported, and the project will not merge into DXVK. Most standard DXVK configuration options do not carry over.

Arriving alongside GXVK, the D7VK 2.4 release brings maintenance fixes for older Direct3D APIs. It enforces old DirectDraw limits of 2048-pixel surfaces and 2048x1536 display modes to prevent crashes in older titles. The update also fixes missing text in Re-Volt and 3DMark 2000, adds an Earth 2150-specific 4:3 mode, and introduces a back-buffer adjustment feature for Wayland.
