OpenCNC 3D developers have released a fan project that adds a 3D rendering engine to Command & Conquer: Red Alert.

A fan project from the OpenCNC 3D developers has added a 3D overhaul to Command & Conquer: Red Alert. Instead of starting over completely, the creators integrated a contemporary graphics system on top of the original game code. This method preserves classic features like constructing structures, gathering resources, unit steering, and pathfinding during combat.

The Enhanced 3D mode adds real-time lighting, shadows, volumetric smoke, debris, and blast craters. Explosions cast dynamic light across the map, and animation blending is used to smooth out unit movements. Players can use a live settings panel during gameplay to adjust bloom, soft shadows, colour correction, or a retro CRT-style filter. The project supports the full single-player campaign and original story cutscenes with working save files. A launcher is available to download the project and optional high-quality music and movies. Users can switch back to the classic 2D look if they prefer.
