TL;DR

Board Channels claims Nvidia is speeding up the launch of the GeForce RTX 5080 24 GB to December or January, potentially replacing the 16 GB model in China.

Nvidia is reportedly accelerating plans for the GeForce RTX 5080 24 GB. Posts from the Chinese hardware forum Board Channels claim the card could launch as early as December, with retail availability following in January 2027.

The new variant features 24 GB of GDDR7 memory, representing a 50 percent increase over the existing 16 GB model. Hardware analysts note that Nvidia can achieve this capacity without altering the board layout by using eight 3 GB memory chips instead of the current 2 GB modules on the same bus.

In China, the 24 GB card is expected to replace both the 16 GB RTX 5080 and the region specific RTX 5090D V2 as the new flagship model. Reports indicate Nvidia has already cleared out its internal supply of 16 GB chips for production, and existing retail stock should last about two months. Meanwhile, current RTX 5080 16 GB cards are selling for roughly 1,800 euros in Europe and close to $2,000 at United States retailers, well above the $999 starting price. Board Channels previously pointed to a price near 19,999 yuan, or nearly $3,000, for the upcoming 24 GB version in China.

Nvidia has not confirmed the release timeline or specifications. It remains unconfirmed whether the 24 GB model or the phase out of the 16 GB card will extend to global markets outside China, and the final product name is still undecided.
