TL;DR

A newly available UEFI utility lets Windows users bypass tensor math limits on certain NVIDIA graphics cards.

An open-source utility created by an independent programmer removes artificial hardware restrictions on Windows for several generations of GeForce products without modifying the firmware chip. Consumer hardware executes specific mixed-precision computations at half speed compared to enterprise equivalents. Gamers and standard applications will not experience any changes, as the modification targets artificial intelligence tasks like model fine-tuning and image creation.

One user reported their RTX 4070 Ti Super saw FP16 performance increase from 57.00 to 150.93 TFLOPS, though board power rose from 227 W to nearly 292 W. An RTX 2070 reportedly moved from 36 to approximately 60-63 TFLOPS.

The unlock is temporary and resets on every power-off. Users must run the tool from a USB stick on every cold boot, which requires disabling Secure Boot or enrolling a self-signed certificate. This may cause issues with games using anti-cheat that requires Secure Boot. RTX 20 owners must enable GSP firmware mode first. The tool does not support RTX 50 series cards, though GTX 16 series support is in development. The developer warns that using this alongside a power limit unlock can push heat and power consumption past stock limits.
