TL;DR

Itch.io deleted about 2 terabytes of AI-generated spam and introduced a "No AI" search filter that hides games with generative AI disclosures.

Itch.io removed about 2 terabytes of AI-generated spam and poorly optimized models from the platform. The storefront also introduced a "No AI" search filter to let users hide projects whose creators disclose using generative AI. Itch.io states the action is not an outright ban on AI-generated content, and has not specified how many individual projects were removed during the cleanup.

The platform expanded its disclosure requirements alongside the update. Anyone publishing tabletop games, books, comics, or soundtracks must now report if they used artificial intelligence. A parallel disclosure rule for game assets has been in place for two years, while quality guidelines have long prohibited excessive automatically generated uploads. Itch.io notes that daily game page creations rose from over 3,000 to more than 6,000 between August 3 and October 30, driven chiefly by newcomers rather than mass submissions, while downloads and purchases remained flat.
