TL;DR

A technician reports receiving 10 damaged RTX 4090 and RTX 5090 graphics cards in two days due to 16-pin power connector issues.

A technician named Brother Zhang received eight GeForce RTX 4090 and two GeForce RTX 5090 graphics cards for repair over a two-day period. All 10 units showed damage to the 16-pin power connector. Some cards had burns on the connector or black marks on the PCB. One Gainward RTX 5090 had a power cable fused to the connector, requiring the owner to cut the cable to remove it.

Brother Zhang says repaired connectors reached temperatures of about 80 to 82 degrees Celsius during testing. He noted that the exact cause of the damage is difficult to identify, as it may stem from power supply issues, user error during connection, or low-quality cables. Reports say the affected cards include models from MSI, ASUS, and Gainward. While some users seek independent repairs, reports say several manufacturers refuse warranty service if consumers use unapproved adapters or connections.
