Apple announced a redesigned MacBook Pro featuring tandem OLED "PROLED XDR" touchscreens and M5 Pro or M5 Max chips, with shipping starting November 6.

Apple announced a redesigned MacBook Pro featuring its first touchscreen and OLED displays, which use tandem "PROLED XDR" technology. The new machines start at $2,899 and are scheduled to ship on November 6. Despite the high price, these models use the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips released in March rather than the M6 chips found in cheaper 14-inch models launched a day prior. Both sizes offer up to 128GB of unified memory.

The new displays feature a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio and can reach 2,000 nits of peak brightness. They support ProMotion with a variable refresh rate between 10Hz and 120Hz. The 14-inch model has a resolution of 3,024 x 1,986 pixels, while the 16-inch model is 3,472 x 2,266 pixels, both at 254 ppi. The notch is replaced by a Dynamic Island housing a 12-megapixel camera. Color support includes P3, Adobe RGB, and over 80% of the Rec.-2020 color space.

The chassis is thinner and lighter than previous versions. The 14-inch model weighs 3 pounds, and the 16-inch model weighs 4 pounds. Connectivity includes three Thunderbolt 5 ports, an SDXC slot, HDMI, a headphone jack, and MagSafe. Apple says the battery can reach a 50% charge in 30 minutes.

Apple has not detailed how macOS handles touch-specific interface changes or if the devices support Apple Pencil. Reports suggest a reinforced hinge may prevent screen wobble during touch use, but Apple has not confirmed this.
