ASRock deploys version 1.0.5 firmware for ten Radeon RX 7000 cards
TL;DR
Ten Radeon RX 7000 series graphics cards received a new firmware release from ASRock to resolve security flaws, based on statements from AMD.
On October 29, ASRock deployed version 1.0.5 of its vBIOS for ten distinct graphics cards. The list includes the RX 7600 XT Challenger and Steel Legend, RX 7700 XT Challenger, RX 7800 XT Challenger and Steel Legend, RX 7900 XT Phantom Gaming and Phantom Gaming White, plus the RX 7900 XTX Phantom Gaming, Taichi, and Taichi White versions. Customers apply these updates using the ASRVBFlash utility within Windows.
Although the company does not explain the modifications, AMD notes that the new software resolves possible security flaws. Furthermore, AMD states there are no known exploits for these vulnerabilities. Observers point out that the release timing aligns with an RDNA 3 patch previously distributed by Sapphire. GIGABYTE associated similar files with the AMD-SN-6023 designation, though AMD has not yet released a formal bulletin.
Users should look at the support page for their exact hardware before installing the new firmware. The manufacturer notes that users can skip the process if their hardware functions without issues. This guideline contrasts with recommendations from AMD suggesting immediate installation of new firmware.
