Microsoft ends support for Windows 11 24H2 consumer editions

TL;DR

Microsoft stopped releasing patches for Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro variants on October 13.

Microsoft stopped issuing regular patches for Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro editions on October 13. The October 2026 security release was the final one available for these variants, concluding with build 26100.9711. Although Enterprise and Education editions of 24H2 remain supported until October 12, 2027, consumers on Home and Pro must upgrade.

Version 25H2 Home and Pro support expires on October 12, 2027, while version 26H2 runs until October 10, 2028. Microsoft explains that 26H2 installs via a minor package instead of a complete system overhaul for compatible hardware. This newer version is widely available for 24H2 and 25H2 users, though a safeguard hold might block the offer if compatibility issues are found.

Remaining on 24H2 for Home or Pro means missing important patches. For instance, a Remote Desktop error was fixed on October 28 for newer versions, but stays only mitigated on 24H2.
