Windows 11 Search can launch Android apps via Phone Link
TL;DR
Microsoft's new Windows 11 Search can display and launch Android apps from a connected phone, according to reports.
Windows 11 Search can now show and launch Android apps from a connected phone via Phone Link, reports say. In testing with Windows 11 build 26340.9767, searching for an app like Bluesky showed a "Mobile App" result that launched the app on a Samsung Galaxy A26 and mirrored the screen to the PC. Microsoft says that with a supported phone connected through Phone Link, users can call or text and access actions like Do Not Disturb. While Microsoft confirmed these phone actions in the October 30 release of build 26340.9843, the company's release notes do not officially mention opening phone apps through Search.
Microsoft says Android features are currently available, while iPhone support is planned for early next year. App streaming requires specific Samsung, HONOR, OPPO, ASUS, vivo, or Xiaomi phones running Android 10 or newer with Link to Windows preinstalled. These phones must also be on the same Wi-Fi network as the PC. Microsoft notes that pairing a phone for calls and messages does not guarantee app streaming will work. The new Search features are rolling out gradually to Insiders.
