Intel states that its 1.4nm class technology is progressing with the arrival of version 0.9 ahead of a planned early 2027 update.
What changed
- Risk production begins in the second half of 2027, with high-volume manufacturing expected in 2028, while the node offers 15-20% better performance or 25-35% lower power than 18A. TechPowerUp ↗
Intel has made version 0.9 of its Process Design Kit available for the 14A 1.4nm class manufacturing technology. Plans are in place to roll out the 1.0 version in the first quarter of 2027. This manufacturing method targets advanced processors while aiming to draw outside clients to the firm's foundry operations.
The company notes that the technology will incorporate PowerDirect backside power delivery, RibbonFET transistors, and High NA EUV lithography. Although the new toolkit lets engineers advance further with their layouts and spot compatibility snags, the platform is not yet prepared for mass manufacturing. Commercial production depends on extra testing, better output yields, and enough buyer interest. Leadership also emphasizes that achieving market success relies on proving competitive costs, power efficiency, and overall performance.
