AMD says FSR Upscaling 4.1.2 is now available to Xbox Series X|S developers through the October 2026 Microsoft Game Development Kit. This update introduces machine learning-based image scaling to the consoles for the first time. Developers can choose between two models: Full INT8 and Lite INT8. AMD says the Lite INT8 model is less than half the size of the full model and requires fewer GPU resources. While the models differ in size and performance cost, memory consumption is determined by the chosen output and rendering resolutions, regardless of which model is active.
The upscaler supports Native AA, Quality, Balanced, Performance, and Ultra Performance modes. It uses jittered color data, scene depth, and motion vectors, though reactive masks and transparency inputs are optional. Developers must manually implement the technology in their games to use it.
AMD also confirmed support for the ROG Xbox Ally handheld family using the Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme and Ryzen Z2 A processors. Testing is currently possible for the ROG Xbox Ally X and ROG Xbox Ally X20 using a specialized ASUS driver for DirectX 12 games that already support FSR 3.1 or newer. Support for the standard ROG Xbox will arrive in a later update.
Background In October, AMD released FSR SDK 2.4, which included FSR Upscaling 4.1.2 and added Vulkan support for upscaling and frame generation. Our earlier story
