A fan remake titled Xenogears Project Animus is in early development. The project aims to rebuild the 1998 PlayStation RPG with improved visuals and expanded environments. Developer Harry, also known as xHannyah, plans to rebuild approximately 682 locations, starting with the village of Lahan.
Xenogears · official art via IGDBThe project intends to address the gameplay limitations of the original game's second disc by replacing narrated story sequences with new areas to explore, combat encounters, and extra tasks. Harry says players can select either the base narrative or an expanded plot, as well as choose between the original combat rules and a redesigned system. Gear battles are planned to run at 60 FPS, compared to the 30 FPS in the original version.
The expanded Disc 2 is a long term objective, and Harry has not demonstrated completed gameplay for those sections. Reports say the project uses AI assisted development techniques to manage its scope. No release date has been announced.
