Microsoft announced AMD FSR 4 is available for Xbox Series X/S and Asus ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X via the Microsoft GDK.
Microsoft announced that AMD FSR 4 is now optimized for Xbox Series X/S and Asus ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X. The update is available through the Microsoft GDK, which includes a sample for developers to integrate the machine learning-based upscaling into games. This version supports Full and Lite INT8 models.
On an Xbox Series X, using the INT8 model adds 1.29 ms of frame time at 1440p and 2.75 ms at 4K. Microsoft says it worked with AMD to ensure the RDNA 2-based GPUs in these devices can handle the technology smoothly. Players will see the benefits once developers choose to update their games with the feature.
Industry insiders speculate that FSR 4.1 will benefit the Xbox Series X more than the PS5 because the PS5 is reportedly only capable of INT8-based algorithms. While the PS5 Pro has enough horsepower to use the feature, the base PS5 has 20 TOPS compared to the 48.6 TOPS found in the Xbox Series X.
Background In October, machine learning-based upscaling was first introduced to Xbox Series X|S developers through the Microsoft Game Development Kit. Our earlier story
