The Age of the Ring Team has released version 10.0 of its mod for The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth II and The Lord of the Rings: The Rise of the Witch-king. This update combines The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings into a single campaign. It includes 14 new Return of the King missions and one new mission based on The Fellowship of the Ring. The mod adds two alternate factions, Dead of Dunharrow and Sharkey's Boys, along with new art, audio, and custom difficulty settings. Players can use the Online menu and Open Play lobby for multiplayer. The update also includes the Worldbuilder map editor with all Age of the Ring objects and a new campaign tab in the launcher to track progress. The mod is free via its own launcher or ModDB and does not require the original games to be installed. The original Battle for Middle-earth is no longer sold because Electronic Arts does not hold the Middle-earth license.
