TL;DR

A user reached a 3.9 GHz frequency on an XFX Radeon RX 9070 GRE using a custom DirectX 9 triangle workload and specialized tuning tools.

A forum user named ShrimpBrime reached a 3.9 GHz frequency on an XFX Radeon RX 9070 GRE Swift using custom tools called R-Team OC and GPU Frequency Generator. This overclock was achieved without VBIOS modifications, specialized cooling, or hardware changes. The developer noted the 3.9 GHz speed stayed steady during the workload instead of showing a brief spike, although the software crashed and restarted soon after capturing images.

The test utilized a custom DirectX 9 workload consisting of 2,048 draw calls per frame with 2,048 triangles per draw call, totaling 4,194,304 triangles. Because this uses a light dummy load rather than a demanding 3D title, the frequency is not applicable to real-world testing. ShrimpBrime noted that approximately 3.85 GHz could be reproduced repeatedly using AMD's Radeon Software overclocking controls.

The displayed frequency metric comes from the driver and might not show the true effective clock speed. The monitoring software updates shared data every 2 ms, while power metrics update about once every 15.5 ms.
