TL;DR

Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan says Nova Lake is intended to address the company's lack of competitive high-performance desktop processors.

Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan admitted during a quarterly call that his firm trails rivals in building powerful desktop processors. Tan said the Core Ultra 200S cannot compete with Ryzen 9000 in this market.

Tan anticipates the Nova Lake series will fix this issue, improving market presence as conditions stabilize. Desktop versions of Nova Lake will release in stages. The first stage includes models with a single computing chip, including versions with up to 28 cores. Models featuring two computing chips are planned for the second half of 2027. Intel expects manufacturers to select Nova Lake for double the devices compared to Panther Lake.
