Reports indicate that computer memory costs will not return to previous levels immediately even if the sector fails, because major manufacturers have shifted their production capacity toward specialized components.
Memory costs are unlikely to drop quickly even if the sector faces a severe downturn. While data centers do not purchase standard consumer components, they have driven a major shift toward high-bandwidth memory. Major producers have pivoted their fabrication capacity accordingly.
Since specialized components cannot be used in standard home computers, any potential surplus would not immediately resolve shortages. Industry expert Ben Miles explains that reconfiguring a facility takes several months. Furthermore, constructing new fabrication plants requires years of work, and finished goods must still travel through multiple layers of distribution before buyers can purchase them.
